Declawing

Declawing is not necessary for all cats, but can be done humanely, using the appropriate anesthesia and pain medications. Appropriate training of the kitten to channel scratching tendencies to appropriate objects may alleviate the need to declaw.

Younger cats (<1 year) tolerate the procedure very well. Older cats show more discomfort and have a longer healing phase.
